Cafe2Go Makes a Splash in Government Food Service Magazine

12/18/09 - The recently released, November issue of Government Food Service (GFS) magazine is a big one for Cafe2Go The Self-Heating Beverage Kit.  The new HeaterMeals product is featured in two write-ups, and also appears in a full-page ad on page 50!

Cafe2Go receives solo consideration in the "Products" section on page 61.  This section typically lists and describes new products, usually those in which governemnt food service professionals might be interested.  The blurb gives a quick overview of Cafe2Go, and includes a nice product shot.  You can see it below.

In the article "Refreshing Beverage Choices," assistant editor Barry Loberfeld examines the product in more depth.  Loberfeld supplies good background on the development of Cafe2Go.  He also describes the heating statistics and details the two Cafe2Go kits: the Coffee Pack and the Variety Pack.

The following is an excerpt from that article:

While many beverage delivery systems used by the services are the same as those in the civilian market, the Cafe2Go Self-Heating Beverage Kit concept was developed at the request of the military.  An innovation of the Cincinnati-based HeaterMeals company ---which in 1990 invented and developed the food heater for the military's MREs --- the kit provides everything service members need to enjoy a hot beverage at any location ---"just add water" ---without the availability of electricity, batteries or an open fire.

Users follow the instructions to activate the patented-technology heater.  Once activated, it raises the beverage temperature 110 degrees, peaking in just 30 minutes.  Then, the heater continues to keep the beverage in the Cafe2Go container hot for an hour more.

The kit serves 18 and comes in two varieties: the Coffee Pack, and the Variety Pack.  The Coffee Pack includes Nescafe Taster's Choice 100 percent freeze-dried coffee, sweetener, Coffee-Mate creamer, stirrers and 18 cups.  The Variety Pack includes Nescafe Taster's Choice 100 percent freeze-dried coffee, Nestea 100% leaf tea, Nestle hot cocoa mix, sweetener, Coffee-Mate creamer, stirrers and 18 cups.

The Cafe2Go has a shelf life of 18 months.  It's recommended for field training exercises, tactical operations, extended scene times, search and rescue operations, disaster strike teams, storm relief and restoration, and remote construction projects.
