Doomsday Preppers
Need some tips on how to get ready for cataclysm? Then you should see Doomsday Preppers. It airs on the National Geographic Channel (NGC) Tuesdays at 9:00 pm. The NGC website states that the show, “…explores the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it.†These folks aren’t just sitting around storing MREs or emergency food.
Each week, different individuals are profiled as they prepare for different circumstances that might result if society came to an abrupt end. It sounds like a real downer, but interest in the show has taken off. It has been pulling in ratings and was the network’s most watched program in 2012.
The featured “preppers†ready themselves for doomsday scenarios such as economic or societal collapse, an electromagnetic pulse, terrorist attacks, nuclear incidents, fuel shortages, war, pandemics, coastal tsunamis, earthquakes…and the list goes on and on.
While some might find these folks extreme in their views and in their actions to prepare, these preppers take it in stride and continue on undeterred. If nothing else, the show offers a lot of good information for those thinking about disaster preparedness. From water purification, to driving a truck fueled by wood, Doomsday Preppers covers it all.
The popularity of the show is causing it to grow off-screen, as well. Available in the Apple Store is Doomsday Preppers: The Game, where players build and stock multi-level bunkers while improving their survival skills. You can even get your Prepper Score by taking a survey to discover how prepared you really are.
